This video is of me and my friend Graham riding near seattle at a "secret" trail a few years ago. Actually, it's not so secret, but people get pissy if you give away the trails around here. Sometimes it's annoying. I mean, bike riding is supposed to be fun for everyone, so you should share it, right? Well, that's true, but these guys are scared to lose the trails that they worked so hard to build. So I don't blame them, but it makes seattle a "bad vibe" type spot for freeride.
There are a few guys who are cool and try to build trails that aren't illegal, but there aren't very many. I like eastern washington better, because no one really cares where you ride. If you find a sweet hiker trail to ride, the hikers you encounter will greet you kindly and make some sort of comment about how amazing it is that you can get your bike down the trail.
Oh, in the picture you can see a guy standing there with his bike upright. He snapped his fork clean off a few minutes before this clip! I don't know if he even rides anymore, but this kid was a total natural. Probably didn't hurt that he was a pro snowmobiler at 17, but he was reallly good. Somehow he didn't hurt himself when his manitou suspension fork freed itself from his bike upon landing.
